ICON Announces Retirement of Mr. Bob Scott-Edwards


Mr. Tom O’Leary to succeed him as President, ICON Central Laboratories

Dublin, Ireland, January 13th, 2010 – ICON plc, (NASDAQ: ICLR; ISIN:IE0005711209), a global provider of outsourced development services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device industries, today announced that Mr. Bob Scott-Edwards has retired from the position of President, ICON Central Laboratories, effective December 31st 2009. Mr. Tom O’Leary, previously Senior Vice President and Global Head of Data Management, ICON Clinical Research, has succeeded Mr. Scott-Edwards.

Mr. Scott-Edwards has served as President, ICON Central Laboratories, since August 2004, having previously held the position of Vice President, Sales & Marketing at ICON Central Laboratories since June 2000. Under his tenure, ICON established a global network of wholly-owned central laboratories in New York, Dublin, Ireland, Singapore and Bangalore, India and has provided laboratory services to thousands of clients in virtually every phase and therapeutic area of clinical development.

Mr. Tom O’Leary joined ICON in February, 2001 and was appointed Global Head of Data Management in 2006. Prior to ICON, Mr. O’Leary held senior data management, project management and resource management positions at SmithKline Beecham and GlaxoSmithKline. He is a graduate of Kingston University in Surrey and a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry. He holds a Degree in Medicinal Chemistry and a Masters in Data Management.
